September Report
President’s Report for September
I’ve had a number of complaints about internet speed and available bandwidth in the Malaga area. Have you noticed congestion, slow speeds or long wait times before your web search or Cloud application activates? I’m currently preparing a submission to the Federal Minister for communications outlining the problems that we are experiencing. The National Broadband Network has been slated for works to commence in WA but in Victoria Park, Geraldton and Mandurah. What comfort does that offer business? Your input with details on the business needs and aspirations would be appreciated.
The MDBA Functions Sub-Committee, under the guidance of Peter Veenhoven has taken on a new look with more networking sundowners and presenters at the Breakfast Club. If you are keen to promote your business to others in the area give Peter a call. We are here to assist your business growth so consider sponsoring a function.
Round-abouts at Oxleigh and Crocker Drives have an interesting traffic management issue associated with them. When heading west at Oxleigh and east at Crocker in the left hand lanes you would think that you do not need to stop for traffic on the roundabout because it is a single inner lane. This however confuses drivers and as a result both lanes stop to give way to traffic on the inner lane.
I asked Kiara police their view on the matter and the unofficial response was the outer lane is for though traffic and traffic on the inner lane needed to indicate and give way when traversing to the outer lane. I’ll put it in writing and will be keen to see what comes back. I’d suggest a solid white line in the middle of the two lanes to make it clear which lanes traffic should be in. Let me know your thoughts.
There have been complaints about access to the shops on the corner of Alexander Drive and Victoria Road. With the driveway so close to the intersection there are congestion issues where traffic wants to cross the road and travel east. Also traffic stopped so close to the intersection on the opposite side of the road to enter the shops is a hazard to traffic coming off Alexander Drive. It seems the solution is to increase the length of the traffic island in the middle of the road. Again your thoughts on this would be appreciated.
