Home Based Business Online Self Assessment Tool

The City of Swan leads the way in enabling residents to work from home and has introduced proactive home-based business policies to encourage the establishment and growth of home-based business. The region is recognised as a growing, vibrant economy with a high quality of life and a good place to locate, recreate and work.

The City has developed this Online Self Assessment Tool for you to assess whether your business activity falls into the “As of Right” category or if it requires approval from the City. By clicking on the yes/no tabs you will navigate through the site to the appropriate outcome for your business. If you do require City approval to run your business from home, you will be able to download the form directly from the site for you to fill in.

Malaga Place Plan 2010-2013 – status update

Following on from the Malaga Business survey held in the 3rd quarter of 2008, the City put the Malaga Place Plan (2010-2013) up for Public Comment which has now finished. The responses received during this period will be used to make changes to the draft plan. The amended plan then goes back to council for endorsement of the final product. Following this the plan will be designed, printed and a community launch will be held. The timing for the launch is not yet known but stakeholders will be notified when a date is confirmed.

Hardwoods Accepted at Hazelmere Timber Recycling Centre

The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) is pleased to announce that the Hazelmere Timber Recycling Centre now accept MDF and Hardwood timbers for woodchipping in addition to the pine and pale timbers they currently accept.

  • Separated loads of Pine/Pale and Hardwoods - $5.50/m3 or $55.00/tonne Inc GST
  • Mixed loads (i.e. mixture of pine, hardwood and MDF) or full loads of MDF - $7.00/m3 or $70.00/tonne Inc GST

The City of Swan is currently looking into the logistics of being able to provide the bulk woodwaste collection for all of these timbers to the Malaga Business Community.

If you have any of these products for disposal, you are able to deliver them to 77 Lakes Road, Hazelmere WA 6055. For more information on the costs and services available at the Hazelmere Timber Recycling Centre please do not hesitate to contact the EMRC on 9424 2222.

The City of Swan in conjunction with the Perth Region Natural Resource Management (Perth Region NRM), have a remaining seven FREE energy audits on offer to businesses within the City of Swan.

Using the latest advanced technology to provide practical advice on resource efficiency, each audit accurately measures the energy used in a business and offers practical measures to reduce carbon footprint and energy bills.

If you miss out on receiving one of the City’s free audits, you are encouraged to organise for the Perth Region NRM to come to your business and evaluate your energy use. The cost of the audit could be recouped in energy savings.

Best Employer Awards

WA Business News in the July 30-August 5 issue, announced the winners of the three different categories for the WA Business News 2009 Best Employer Award.

Congratulations go to Georgiou Group, 312 Victoria Road for winning the Large Employer Category.
